There is very few reasons why you should check and maintain your tyres regularly. Number one and probably the most important reason is safety while driving your vehicle.
Tyre checks are also essential during each MoT inspection. The MoT tester will check if the tread on the tyre is at least 1.6mm deep across the central three quarters of the tread width going around the complete circumference of the tyre.
Next check is to make sure the tyres are fitted correctly to each axle, they are the same size, type and structure and that there are no serious cuts or bulges on the tyres. Some tyre defects may cause a vehicle to fail the MoT test.

The first practical pneumatic tire was made by John Boyd Dunlop while working as a veterinarian in May Street, Belfast, in 1887 for his son’s bicycle, in an effort to prevent the headaches his son had while riding on rough roads (Dunlop’s patent was later declared invalid because of prior art by fellow Scot Robert William Thomson). Dunlop is credited with “realizing rubber could withstand the wear and tear of being a tire while retaining its resilience”.
